Keolis' environmental commitments

Planet

In the face of the climate emergency, Keolis is committed to working alongside Mobility Organising Authorities and its partners. Our greenhouse gas reduction targets are in line with the 2015 Paris Agreements. They aim to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has confirmed that Keolis’ contribution to the fight against climate change is consistent with its climate transition plan. It is based on ambitious and concrete actions:

#1Transitioning vehicle fleets to non-fossil energies;

#2Involving all stakeholders in the value chain by supporting our suppliers and subcontractors towards better practices and climate commitments;

#3Engaging Keolis teams through raising awareness of climate issues and implementing a climate criterion in the variable pay of the group’s executives;

#4Ensuring these objectives align with Keolis’ existing commitments, notably the ESG indicators, integrated into decision-making processes during tender responses, acquisitions, and investments.

Keolis’ public service mission fits naturally into the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: by reducing the role of personal cars, the Group works to promote sustainable cities and communities.

The Group’s environment policy comprises three key undertakings:

  • Contribute to climate change mitigation through its practices and promoting sustainable mobility
  • Protect the environment by controlling its activities and preventing pollution

Continuously improve its environmental approach.

People

Supporting the career development of each employee

Giving meaning to work. Getting along well together. Protecting employee health and safety. Developing and progressing. Because well-being in the workplace is a non-negotiable imperative, Keolis deploys a committed, responsible and attractive human resources and CSR policy. Its aim is to provide the Group’s 70,000 employees with the best working conditions, conducive to their professional and personal fulfilment. Through concrete and impactful actions, Keolis aims to become the best place to work in the mobility sector.

Because employees are the lifeblood of Keolis and the pillars upon which collective success is founded, Keolis encourages everyone to make plans for the future.

Ever attentive to its employees, the Group supports talent. Skill development, employability, encouraging career moves, preparing for the professions of tomorrow, guaranteeing fair rules in career management: all these goals are more than just words. Through an ambitious training policy and practical actions, Keolis strives every day to provide its employees with an enriching, motivating and fulfilling professional experience.

In 2023, Keolis invested almost 4% of payroll in training, three times more than the minimum legal requirement in France. It also offers 350 training programmes through its Keolis Training Institute (IK) and its own apprentice training college, the Campus Mobilités.

Clients & Partners

Public transport authorities have to deal with a wide range of complex, challenging and sometimes contradictory issues, such as the ecological transition, safety, economic and social development and the public’s new expectations in terms of mobility. As a key partner to local authorities, Keolis works with and for them to build efficient, tailored, sustainable and inclusive transport solutions.

Keolis is committed to making shared, sustainable mobility a lever to enhance the vitality of communities. Working closely with public transport authorities (PTAs), the Group harnesses its expertise to devise innovative, efficient and sustainable mobility solutions for each community, perfectly tailored to the needs of its citizens.

From trains, trams, buses and the metro to on-demand transport, transport for people with reduced mobility and autonomous shuttles, Keolis takes a multimodal approach by combining different modes of transport to provide smooth, simple mobility every day. And because an efficient transport solution is also an economically viable solution for the community, Keolis strives to use all the levers at its disposal to control costs and optimise revenue.

Passengers

Enabling people to get around quickly, easily and reliably. Facilitating access for all to essential services and activities. These are the essential standards to which Keolis holds itself. Every day, the Group strives to offer passengers a pleasant, stress-free and appealing experience. Keolis’ strong commitments to its passengers – personalisation, simplicity, flexibility, comfort, safety, respect for the environment and health, inclusiveness, quality of service and customer relations – are fulfilled every day on the ground by dedicated employees who are always attentive to passengers’ needs.

As the world leader in shared mobility, Keolis leverages its expertise in transport networks to provide passengers with bespoke travel solutions. From public transport to soft mobility, from carpooling to on-demand transport, the Group deploys multimodality within communities. Through this combination of travel modes, each passenger can travel according to their own wants and needs, in total autonomy and flexibility. Keolis continually innovates to provide a scheduled and regular service range available 7 days a week, and reduce waiting times.

The Group also harnesses data to constantly improve the performance, reliability and comfort of its transport services. GPS data provides information on passenger flows and expectations. The data collected by the sensors on board vehicles can be used to anticipate breakdowns and failures (predictive maintenance). Artificial intelligence is also being tested (in the Netherlands) to anticipate the number of passengers on the network depending on the weather.
